The main component of hair, by 90%, is a protein called keratin. This protein is located in the skin, teeth and nails. Protein is needed for the growth of all cells, including cells in the hair. The structure of the hair comes from this protein called keratin.
Keratin consists of amino acids and a substance called cysteine disulfide a “bridge” between them is created and in conjunction with the concentration levels of amino acids determines whether the hair is coarse, fine, strong or weak. Keratin consists of amino acids, cysteine, methionine, leucine, serine, glycine and threonine.
